A Sheffield four-year-old who is ‘always smiling and full of energy’ has won her mum a special treat.
Little Jahnae Reid won The Star’s Draw Your Mum competition – voted for by our readers.
Jahnae’s special portrait of mum Leanne beat more than 250 other pictures.
Mum-of-two Leanne Lawson, aged 26, of Standon Crescent, Wincobank, had no idea Jahnae had entered until after her grandmother Elaine Walker, 65, and mum Natalie, 46, got the youngster to send in her portrait.
Leanne said: “I was a bit shocked when I found out I won. It’s really nice.
“When her entry was in the paper all my family bought it but there were so many entries.
“I might be biased because I’m her mum but I think Jahnae is a good artist for her age.”
Leanne said Jahnae is ‘always smiling’ despite sometimes looking after her little sister, one-year-old Mylah.
“She’s the most talkative child I have ever known.
“She’s always full of energy, always smiling.”
Mylah was born with a condition which means one femur bone is shorter than the other, so she faces operations when she gets older.
Leanne said: “Jahnae looks after her.
“They love each other to bits, though they torment each other sometimes.”
Draw Your Mum competition pictures were printed in a special supplement in The Star last month and readers voted to choose the top drawing.
The Star’s deputy editor Rob Hollingworth said: “I was delighted with the high quality of entries for this year’s Draw Mum competition.
“Draw Mum is one of the highlights of the year and something we always look forward to running.
“It was great to see so many children get involved.
“Jahnae Reid’s picture is eye-catching because it’s so vibrant and full of enthusiasm. She is a credit to her mum.”
The family win a £50 Frankie & Benny’s voucher and a £20 National Garden Gift Voucher.
