Hansel + Gretel, Barnsley Civic Theatre
When you’re really hungry, you might dream of a cake as big as a house.
Or even a whole house made from cake.
But be very careful what you wish for, as poor starving sister and brother Hansel and Gretel find out to their cost when they are lost in the woods.
This version of the famous children’s fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm comes from theatre company Horse + Bamboo, who have been making and touring high quality theatre for over 30 years.
After the company’s successful Red Riding Hood tour last year, Horse + Bamboo’s ambition of taking a traditional fairy tale and giving it a tasty twist continues with their delectable version of Hansel and Gretel.
It’s described as “a baked up delicious treat of a show for ages five and up; it is beautifully presented with succulent music and film, puppets and masks.
“Dark, chewy and yummy at heart, yet coated with a sprinkle of something light, sweet and zesty, Hansel + Gretel promises to be a feast for the senses.”
The show starts at the theatre in Hanson Street today (Tuesday) and runs until Saturday.
There are a variety of morning, afternoon and early evening performance times on different days.
