Jonathan Lee loves a good book.
And now it seems the literary world has returned the compliment, after the Barnsley author landed a four-book deal with a Yorkshire publisher.
The award-winning author, whose previous books The Radio and The Page - have both appeared on Amazon’s best-selling list, was flattered when his online success saw him being wooed by the big publishing houses in London - but eventually decided to go with a local team.
Jonathan, aged 41, said: “I have to admit I was overwhelmed by the interest from London, but I think Yorkshire folk are naturally dubious of people throwing ‘big promises’ around. It was a massive decision, as a great deal of time and effort goes into writing each book - it’s like letting your child go to a babysitter you’re not sure about!”
Jonathan, who writes black comedy thrillers, has signed with Solopreneur Publishing, based in Hemsworth, West Yorkshire, after meeting director Gail Powell at a literary day in Doncaster.
The dad-of-three said: “I really liked the idea I could pop and see the publishing team anytime – that I had such direct access, they wanted me involved and my opinions were valued.”
And Jonathan’s new deal means that he has 200 copies of his previous two books to give away, as the ISBN numbers on the covers are no longer valid.
Jonathan added: “I decided to buy the leftover stock from my previous publisher, at a reduced rate, and am now looking for local charities who would like to sell or raffle them to raise funds.”
Gail, of Solopreneur Publishing, said: “We think Jonathan’s well on his way to literary fame and fortune and this is a fantastic chance to snap up free copies of his books.”
The third title is due for release next spring.
