Families, sports and social clubs are being invited to make bunting and decorate the Trans Pennine Trail for the Tour de France.
Project managers at the Trans Pennine Trail office in Barnsley, and the council’s Rights of Way Team are inviting groups and individuals to make bunting to decorate the trail, which provides access to the route of the race which passes through South Yorkshire in July.
Senior rights of way officer Sarah Ford said: “You could use new fabrics or recycle old clothes, make one pennant or dozens, use the Tour de France jersey colours or any colour combination – the options are limitless.”
Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for development environment and culture, added: “The aim is to brighten up the Trans Pennine Trail this summer and make it a fantastic celebratory backdrop for this iconic race as it flashes through Barnsley.”
The Tour de France will come to Barnsley on Sunday, July 6. Riders will pass through Langsett in Barnsley between 3pm and 4.30pm before heading into Sheffield for the finish.
