Supermarket Christmas opening times Sheffield 2020: when Morrisons, Aldi and Waitrose are open over festive period

Here’s when your local stores will be open in the run up to Christmas and over New Year

With Christmas fast approaching, many households in Sheffield are starting to get their food and drink supplies in order for the festive season.

Yet even the most organised of spreadsheet shoppers are sometimes in need of an emergency dash to the store for items such as cranberry sauce or a bottle of wine.

Fear not though, as many supermarket chains extend store opening hours to satisfy customer demand at this time of year, so shoppers can browse the aisles at their leisure.

Here are the Christmas opening hours for Aldi, Lidl, Sainsburys, Waitrose, M&S, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons near you.

Aldi

Aldi has extended its opening hours from 7am - 11pm Monday to Friday in the run up to Christmas. Check out the times below.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s has extended its opening hours from 21 December to 23 December in a decision which will see 90% of its superstores open from 6am to midnight.

Waitrose

Waitrose will extend its open hours to 11pm in the days leading up to Christmas Eve, with some convenience shops open until midnight.

The majority of its stores will be open from 7am-6pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, except for Welcome Break shops.

On New Year’s Eve, shops will typically be open between 8am-6pm. The majority of shops will be closed on New Year’s Day. Those that will be open will have varying open hours.

Between 21-23 December, around 400 M&S food halls will stay open until midnight in the days leading up to Christmas Eve. Its other stores will stay open until 10pm.

The food halls will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Morrisons

Morrisons has released later closing times for its stores from 18-20 December, with many shops staying open until midnight.

Tesco

Tesco is yet to confirm its opening hours for the festive season yet the supermarket is expected to open its doors to 300 stores for 24 hours a day from 14-24 December.

The rest of the chain's stores will operate between 5am-11pm in the same period.

All of its shops - Express, Metro and Superstores - closed on Christmas Day in 2019 and reopened Boxing Day morning.

Asda

Asda has announced a slight change to its Christmas opening times from last year.

The supermarket will not open its stores on Boxing Day to allow its thousands of staff the chance to stay at home with their loved ones in what Asda said was “recognition of their efforts as key workers during the Covid 19 pandemic”.

It means shoppers will have until 7pm on Christmas Eve to get their Asda shop done before stores close for Christmas Day and Boxing Day before reopening on Sunday 27 December.
