YOUNGSTERS from South Yorkshire will try their hand at triathlon when they take part in an event at Maltby Leisure Centre in Rotherham on Thursday, May 26, 2011.
The Tata Kids of Steel Triathlon event will give hundreds of children the chance to cycle, run and swim over 1,400 metres at the introductory event.
A Tata Steel survey revealed children are nearly twice as likely to own a games console as a bike.
The aim is to give youngsters a chance to experience one of the UK’s fastest growing sports in a safe and fun environment.
There will be 750 children taking part in the Rotherham race.
Mick Hood, HR manager for South Yorkshire-based Tata Steel Speciality, said: “We are thrilled this national event is coming to Yorkshire.
“Our aim is to get children excited about sport and to encourage participation in triathlon at a grass roots level.”
The event takes place at Maltby Leisure Centre from 11.30am and follows a similar event in Leeds.
