Cancer charity urges smokers to give it up

A Doncaster Cancer charity is urging residents to give up smoking in the New Year and donate the cash from a packet of cigarettes to help continue its life saving work.

The Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust is asking smokers to make it their New Year’s resolution to ditch the cigarettes and support the charity in the process.

Residents taking on the challenge are asked to donate the price of a packet of cigarettes to the charity.

For those whose don’t have the willpower they are asked to donate £10 to the charity.

Meanwhile staff at the charity are preparing a ‘mile of scarves’ display for the New Year after a successful campaign.

Residents helped donate a mile and three quarters of scarves that will be displayed in the Frenchgate Centre from January 2.

The scarves will then be sold or auctioned to raise cash for the charity.
