Go behind the scenes at the Sheffield salon which helps give hair loss patients their confidence back

Hair loss takes a heavy emotional toll for many clients

Hair loss clients are travelling from across the UK to a Sheffield salon which has grown into a national hub for specialist hair restoration.

Me Again Salon, On Ecclesall Road, specialises in creating luxury wigs, tapes and bonds for clients experiencing hair loss.

Originally operating as Conrad Blandford Hairdressing, the team rebranded to Me Again in 2024 after witnessing a massive surge in demand for hair loss services. They now welcome around 150 hair loss clients through their doors every single month.

Priced between £150 and £1,600 the salon fits luxury wigs which are made from premium human hair for clients going through chemotherapy, scalp trauma and burns, alopecia or trauma-related hair loss.

Owner Conrad Blandford said: "We even have clients flying in from places like Dubai. A lot of people drive two hours just to get to Sheffield because this service simply isn’t available where they live."

Hair loss takes a heavy emotional toll for many clients. Me Again works to ensure complete discretion for customers by offering customisation and styling in private rooms away from the main salon floor.

"Behind every instance of hair loss, there’s a story, illness, accident, or trauma," Conrad said.

“Clients often come in terrified, but when they sit in a private room and see five or six others in the exact same position, they realise they aren't alone."

They offer a customisation service where they blend and style wigs to fit clients' natural appearances.

Conrad said: "We keep boxes of tissues everywhere, it can be an emotional, life-changing experience. When you lose your hair, looking in the mirror is a constant reminder of an illness or a hard time.

“The moment someone gets their hair back, they look in the mirror and say, 'I feel like me again.'"

Alternatives to wigs include tapes and bonds, which are suitable for those experiencing hair thinning, patchiness, fragility or injuries.

The normal shedding is 50 to 100 hairs a day, which acts as the NHS benchmark for healthy hair turnover. Whilst NHS services are stretched, an increasing number of clients are accessing Me Again's services over GPs and dermatologists.

Conrad said: "If you develop a patch of alopecia and go to your GP, getting a dermatology referral through the NHS can take 8 to 10 months.

Hair loss services in the NHS are particularly underfunded. On average patients can get 1-2 basic synthetic wigs per year, but other non-surgical options such as microlines and custom hair prosthetics are severely capped.

“In the meantime, the stress makes the hair loss worse, so what we're finding is a lot of GPs now are recommending directly straight to us.”

Me Again partners with the Little Princess Trust, which provides free wigs for children and young adults under 24 who have experienced hair loss.

Client testimonies published on the Me Again website have also highlighted the amazing impact of the Sheffield salon's hair loss services. Charlotte, a mother who sought help at Me Again after losing most of her hair, found that  NHS options didn't work for her.

"I think for the younger two children to see me with no hair has probably been the hardest thing for everybody," she shared.

Following a private consultation at the salon, she was fitted with a custom luxury wig, which matched her natural hair tone and style.

Charlotte said: “Hair loss is such a personal thing. My wig has changed everything for me, enabling me to continue to feel confident.

“When Conrad put the wig on me, I cried and said, ‘I look like Me Again.’”
