THE Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, visited St Thomas’s Church in Chesterfield to celebrate the opening of its new community hall.

He spent three days in Derbyshire during which he met police officers from the Chesterfield South Safer Neighbourhood Teams at the church event.

PC Dave Randell, of the Walton and West Safer Neighbourhood Team, who was speaking to visitors about security and local issues, said: “I was introduced to The Archbishop by the vicar at St Thomas’. I told him I was the local officer and explained my role in the community.”

The Archbishop also spoke to the new Street Pastors in Chesterfield, who spend weekends in the town centre helping sick and injured people on nights out.
