Rhodes has found game time hard to come by once again this season, but was back in the squad on Saturday and played his part in helping the Owls to a 1-0 win over Preston North End.

There has been plenty of speculation over the past couple of weeks regarding incomings and outgoings at Wednesday, with the forward now being linked with McCarthy’s side as they continue their hunt for a new striker.

The manager refused to give anything away on their work in the transfer market, and when pressed on Rhodes specifically, McCarthy told the media, "I wouldn't comment on any transfer news as it might compromise any deal. I wouldn't comment on anything.

"So you can take that whether I am or I'm not. But I wouldn't tell anybody anyway because it's just wrong. It's wrong for the players we have in the building. It's wrong for the two clubs involved.”

What could make it interesting is the fact that Wednesday have reportedly shown an interest in Cardiff’s Josh Murphy, and it may be that the two teams try and make something happen that could see both players on the move.

Only time will tell though, and it remains to be seen what sort of business the Owls will do before tomorrow’s deadline at 11pm. So far they have signed Andre Green and Sam Hutchinson this month.
