Neil Thompson’s men, who will make a first appearance the the Bees’ new stadium, will be keen to lay the memory of their last trip to Brentford to rest; a 5-0 thrashing then-manager Garry Monk described as ‘embarrassing’.

Wednesday are battling hard against relegation and will face a side who have lost their last three matches and are likely to be without the league’s top goalscorer in Ivan Toney.

“There are various solutions,” said manager Thomas Frank. “Mads Bech as he did on Saturday could play there, Mads Roerslev is a natural full-back and could play there and we could also play Tariqe Fosu there, as we have done on the right.

“We could even change formation. The only thing I would say that there is a short-term thinking to get some points on the board tomorrow and then the long-term with Rico out and working out what is the best solution.”

Frank confirmed that Pontus Jansson, Emiliano Marcondes, Christian Norgaard and Josh Dasilva were all ruled out.

Speaking after their Coventry defeat, he said: “We have no complaints. All teams have injuries, especially in this season, but I think the amount of injuries we have now is a few more than I prefer.

“But that’s why we have more than 11 players. We have 23 players in the squad. We’ll put a very strong team out on the pitch on Wednesday night.

“We’ll see what we decide to do on Wednesday night, but it was important to get this out of the system, to learn from it and be ready for Sheffield Wednesday.”

“Everyone involved with this fantastic club; fans, staff, players, feels it is painful now, it really hurts. But it is in these moments that one of our biggest values, togetherness, needs to show.

“We’re in a sticky patch, a sticky period.”
