Heroic neighbour used garden hose to battle Sheffield flat fire as firefighters raced to scene

A neighbour used a hose pipe in a desperate bid to extinguish a flat fire in Sheffield and to prevent it spreading.

He took action after flames were spotted in a top floor flat on Laburnum Grove, Stocksbridge, yesterday afternoon.

As firefighters made their way to the blaze, the quick thinking neighbour stood on the lawn outside and trained a garden hose at the burning flat.

Four fire engines were deployed to the blaze and crews spent around three hours at the scene.
