As Storm Christoph continues to batter South Yorkshire – prompting an amber weather warning of rain – we have taken a look back at the Sheffield floods of 2019.

Hundreds of people had to be evacuated from their homes in Doncaster, while stranded shoppers were forced to spend the night at Meadowhall, as a month’s worth of rain fell in a single night on November 7, 2019.

The county saw the heaviest November rainfall since 2000, causing flooding and devastation in a number of areas across Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster.

Marking a year since the floods in November last year, Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis teamed up with council leaders in Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham to demand the investment needed to prevent a repeat of the flooding which affected more than 1,000 homes and 565 businesses across the region.

An amber weather warning for heavy rain was issued by the Met Office yesterday (Monday, January 18), starting at 6am today and lasting until around midday on Thursday.

Five flood alerts have been issued for the Sheffield region – for Blackburn Brook, Middle River Don, River Sheaf and Porter Brook, Upper Derwent in Derbyshire and the Upper River Don catchment.
