The death of lead singer Les McKeown lately led us to rediscover these great pictures of 1970s stars the Bay City Rollers in Sheffield and their obsessive teenage fans.

The band’s screaming fans were nicknamed the Tartan Army by newspapers because they copied their Scottish idols’ costumes of half-mast trousers and plenty of tartan checks. Spiky hair and stripy socks completed the look. The Rollers had a string of bubblegum pop hits such as Bye Bye Baby, Shang-a-Lang and Give a Little Love.
