Sheffield retro: 22 black and white photos capturing life in city in 1953

These historic black and white images look back at goings on in Sheffield more than 70 years ago in 1953.

It was the year of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and people were celebrating all over the city.

It was also the year when World War II sweet rationing ended after 10 years, with children emptying their piggy banks and heading for the nearest sweet shop.
