Sheffield retro: 19 nostalgic photos showing the pubs and bars of Attercliffe and the characters who ran them

It was the Sheffield neighbourhood which once had a pub on nearly every street corner.

Today, almost all those watering holes, where steel workers would slake their thirst after a hard day at the factory, have disappeared from Attercliffe – with only a few surviving. There is a £200 million plan to regenerate the area, building new homes, shops, boutiques and cafes there.

These nostalgic photos showing the pubs and bars of Attercliffe as they used to look, and some of the characters who ran them, are sure to bring memories flooding back for many Sheffielders. How many of these pubs do you remember and do you still visit any of the surviving watering holes in and around Attercliffe?
