Sheffield retro: 18 photos taking you back in time to 1985, including Park Hill, Sheaf Market and Fargate

It was the year in which the first mobile phone call was made in Britain, Eastenders premiered and Back to the Future was released.

We may not have the future imagined for us in the Michael J Fox cinematic classic, which is probably a good thing, but these photos of Sheffield in 1985 show just how much has changed in the city. This retro photo gallery features images from across Sheffield, including old shops at Park Hill, long before its dramatic renaissance, lost pubs and many of the businesses which have come and gone on Fargate and High Street, in the city centre.
