Sheffield Museums offering virtual tours to showcase the collections which can't be seen in person at the moment

As the doors of Sheffield’s Museums remain closed during lockdown virtual tours are now being run to allow people to look at the exhibits from the comfort of their own home.

A Sheffield Museum spokesperson said: “Throughout the pandemic we've been bringing our collections, events and exhibitions online. Join our curators, plus a variety of experts, to discover more about our exhibitions and collections, plus take a glimpse behind the scenes of our collections stores to see objects not currently on display.”

The tours are being streamed through Facebook Live and their are also options for people to enjoy a 3D Virtual Tour.

The museums spokesperson said: “You can now explore the most recent exhibition at Weston Park Museum from home in this this new 3D Virtual Tour! ‘The Sheffield Project: Photographs of a Changing City' brings together photographs that document Sheffield during the late 1980s - a pivotal moment in its history.

Take a virtual tour of the exhibition, created by MM Design Limited in partnership with Scene3D, Untitled Print Studio and Museums Sheffield.”

Some of the previous live talks have including taking people on a journey through Ancient Egypt with Curator of Archaeology, Martha Jasko-Lawrence who showed off a 3,500-year-old piece of bread and a mummified fish.

A museum spokesperson said: “This is one of the newest galleries to open at Weston Park Museum and Ancient Egypt explores this captivating civilisation in more than 300 objects. I picked out a few of them and sharing the fascinating stories behind them.”
