The brave lads from Sheffield City Morris entertained fellow dancers at an event 32 years ago in their very own dance routine echoing the film The Full Monty – and yes, they did get their kit off.

They left only some bells on to hide their modesty!

John Scholey wrote: “I am a member of the Sheffield City Morris team and in 1998 we wrote a new Morris dance called the Full Morris.

"We were the guests of Oyster Morris from Canterbury for a weekend in Benenden near Kent and it is expected of guest teams to perform an item in the evening’s entertainment.

"Following the success of The Full Monty the previous year, the Full Morris was written especially for this weekend.

"The dance began with a traditional Morris tune before launching into You Sexy Thing and the six dancers, starting in full Morris kit, stripped down until they had just a set of Morris bells worn in a very strategic place.

"One of the dancers, the late-lamented Barry Callaghan, even wrapped himself in Cling Film as Dave, played by Mark Addy, did in the film.

"As you can imagine it went down a storm with the mixed audience of Morris dancers but, true to the actual story, the Full Morris was performed for one night and one night only.”

John said that the team in the photos were Derek Wood, Ray Dyson, Pete Smith, Dominic Rice, Alec Thompson and Barry Callaghan.

The photos were displayed as part of the team’s 40th anniversary exhibition that was held in the Winter Garden in 2014.
