Sheffield gets creative to mark VE Day 75 years on

Sheffield Council have draped the flag of Great Britain over the much-loved Women of Steel statue on Holly St in Sheffield city centre to mark 75 years since the end of war in Europe.

Elsewhere, Donna Calcott has decorated the exterior of her house in Eckington for the day, using card and spray paint to make a spitfire plane, a World War II soldier and even a Winston Churchill cut out.

Donna said she has been “overwhelmed by the wonderful response” to her tribute.

Another house on Mosborough High Street has been given a red, white and blue makeover, while bunting has also covered Stone Street in the village.
