Memorial events held to remember victims of Sheffield's Great Flood

There were three memorial events across the city to mark the anniversary of the Great Flood which killed 240 people and left thousands of people homeless.

Dale Dyke Dam burst on March 11, 1864 and 700 million gallons of waters rushed through Loxley Village and on to Malin Bridge and Hillsborough and in to Sheffield city centre.

To honour those people who perished in the flood there was a flower laying ceremony at Millsands yesterday on the flood memorial which was led by historian Ron Clayton, flowers were laid at the Bates family grave in Loxley Cemetry by the Friends of Loxley Cemetry and Malcolm Nunn took people on a walk to the dam site.
