It’s now 30 years since Sheffield’s Supertram was given the green light by the Department of Transport – allowing work to commence on the city’s new network the following year.

The initial £240m funding pot allowed work on the first line out to Meadowhall to commence, opening in 1994, and there are now 50 stations over four lines. Initially viewed as a financial failure, the network was privatised in 1997 to change its fortunes.
