Usually at Easter the Queen presents ‘Maundy money’ to local pensioners in a UK cathedral or abbey. A number of people equal to the sovereign's age are chosen for their service to the Church and community. The Queen hands each recipient two small leather string purses, one with money and the other with silver Maundy coins.
