From demonic dogs to sightings of a World War Two soldier - here are some of Sheffield's most famous ghost sightings

Sheffield has one of the most haunted roads anywhere in the country, with dozens of paranormal manifestations recorded along the Stockbridge bypass over the years.

But there are dozens of ghostly sightings from around the city with many of Sheffield’s historic buildings famed for their paranormal activity.

Here are some that you may not have heard of . . .

The ghost of a former maid is said to haunt the Ashdale Grove House, in Westbourne Grove. Rumour has it that the woman took her own life when her secret lover, a local policeman, left her. The ghost reportedly moves items around in the building to this day.

Haunting of Attercliffe’s Station Hotel

The ghost of a man who was stabbed to death is said to haunt Attercliffe’s Station Hotel. Legend has it that the man was murdered when the building was three cottages, and to this day there are reports of the man's screams being heard and footsteps in empty corridors.

Phantom on the platform

A phantom is said to haunt the platform of the long-derelict Beighton railway station. In the early 1960s, two men were walking along the platform when something wrenched a paraffin lamp from one of their hands and threw it down the platform. When he went to retrieve it, it happened again and the pair fled in terror.

Two lovers at Bunting Nook

The ghosts of two lovers are said to haunt Bunting Nook, Norton. Legend has it that the two were eloping on horseback and broke their necks when they were thrown from the creature.

Ghost of young boy

The ghost of a young boy wearing Victorian-era clothing is said to run around on Clough Field, Crookes in the dead of night. There have been numerous sightings.

WW2 soldier

A spectral Second World War soldier has been seen standing guard at Kelham Island, along with ghostly children playing in the museum and a tall male figure who also stalks its corridors.

Demonic dogs

The spectral dog which, according to legend, stalks the perimeter of Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens may be more famous, but another demonic canine has also been seen on Taplin Road, Hillsborough, on many occasions.
