Sheffield: War and Peace Revisited is a look back at an exhibition which was held at the city’s Central Library a couple of years ago.

The exhibition explored how Sheffield’s rich history had been shaped by conflict and by major events in the wider world.

The series will cover hundreds of years of the city’s heritage and the first articles look at the story of Mary, Queen of Scots and her imprisonment at Manor Lodge, the rise of Sheffield Castle and the city’s early borders.

Sheffield Libraries say: “We pick out a selection of stories from our city’s past and hopefully whet your appetite for more.

“You can delve deeper by visiting the City Archive web pages and view thousands of images at Picture Sheffield, the city’s depository of over 100,000 local images.”

For a limited period of time during the COVID-19 closedown, Sheffield’s online library service is able to offer free home access to the websites FindMyPast and the British Newspaper Archive to all library members.

Findmypast is a British-owned world leader in online genealogy.

It has an unrivalled record of online innovation in the field of family history and 18 million registered users worldwide, says the library service.
