DJ Martin Wright was the original resident at Kingdom Nightclub on Burgess Street until its closure in 2005.

After hearing that the original building was damaged by fire three weeks ago, Martin decided to present a one-off DJ set on his Facebook page as a tribute to the club.

And after just two weeks, it has hit more than 8,000 views and been inundated with more than 500 photos from nostalgic clubbers

His Facebook streams have brought much-needed relief during lockdown, with people turning their living rooms into mini nightclubs, complete with disco lights and glow sticks.Martin said: “After hearing that the iconic building that housed Kingdom Nightclub was damaged by fire, I decided to present a one-off reunion night on my Facebook page, encouraging clubbers to dance and send in their memories of this famous club.“Originally I thought we would only get about 100 views, but two weeks on we regularly attract 8,000 viewers per week.

“Our page is now attracting 1,000 followers and customers have sent more than 500 photos of nights out at the club, which we display as a slide show during the live event.“In these times of lockdown, its good to bring positivity and helps people remember the good times they had.”Martin also runs a reunion page dedicated to other iconic clubs such as Club Wow, and Pulse and Vogue.This bank holiday weekend, his page Sheffield Clubbers Reunion will host a six-hour mini festival with six DJs celebrating the iconic music from the three clubs.The whole event is free and aims to take clubbers back to the late 90s and early 2000s.

The virtual event takes place on Sunday, May 10, between 4pm and 10.30pm and will include old skool house, trance and clubland.

Martin said: “We are using technology that means it's a constant broadcast for the whole time.

“We are putting everything behind this.”

The line-up starts with Martin Wright and Lukey P at 4pm.

At 5pm is Mannie, who has spent more than 20 years working in the late night industry. He has played to audiences around the world from Dubai to Ibiza, with weekend residencies in Sheffield, Leeds and regular guest spots in York, Nottingham and Manchester.

He is described as a DJ who combines a blend of soulful disco and house classics.

Following at 6pm is Marc Osikka, with a Way Back When vinyl set, Emmo, from Trilogy, Doncaster, at 7pm, with Madwax’s vinyl trance classics at 8pm. The evening will end back with the hosts Martin Wright and Lukey P.
