Musically the MOD revival was in full swing and The Jam and Special AKA both topped the charts, along with Blondie, The Police and ABBA. It was also the year that Jack Nicholson terrified cinema audiences in The Shining, Harrison Ford was put into deep sleep in The Empire Strikes Back, and the Blues Brothers went on their ‘mission from God’.

But there was also plenty going on in Sheffield. How many people do you recognise from these pictures taken in the city 40 years ago?
