Sheffield’s O2 Academy on Arundel Gate has had three incarnations as an entertainment venue over more than half a century.

According to the venue’s website, the white-tiled building opened in 1968 as the Top Rank Suite, with appearances by The Police, The Clash, Joy Division, The Jam and David Bowie. Then it became the Roxy in May 1985, featuring pop acts like Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan and local stars Heaven 17 and the Human League.

It reopened as the O2 Academy Sheffield in 2008. Reverend and The Makers played the first gig and Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker took to the decks after the show.
