Some have been demolished, a few buildings have new uses and only Abbeydale Picture House survives as a cinema, although there is still a way to go before it is fully restored. 5. Sitting comfortably

6. Famous facade
The Lansdowne Picture Palace, junction of London Road and Boston Street, pictured in the 1920s. After the cinema closed the building hosted a range of nightclub venues and is now a convenience store. Ref no s08057 Photo: Picture Sheffield
7. 'Britain's most modern cinema'
The ABC Cinema, Angel Street, designed by ABC's architects, costing £200,000. Opened May 18, 1961 and pictured on April 22, 1963. It became an ABC 1-2 in September 1975. In May 1986, the Cannon group took over and renamed it Cannon 1-2 in January 1987. It closed on July 28, 1988 and the building was demolished the following year. A Premier Inn now stands there.
