Heartbroken partner found Sheffield man unresponsive after assault, inquest told

The inquest into the death of a man who died in High Green on January 30 opened today (February 9) following the arrests of several people on suspicion of murder.

Senior coroner David Urpeth told the court that Lee James Phillips, who was 45, died at his house on South Road in High Green, Sheffield.

He had been discovered unresponsive by his partner, who contacted the emergency services.

South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service attended the house after being told Mr Phillips was bleeding and unresponsive after being assaulted.

Mr Phillips, a warehouse worker, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men, 31 and 25, and a 19-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The police investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Crown Prosecution Service has yet to bring charges against those arrested.

Mr Urpeth adjourned the inquest to May 18, 2021, as he awaits the results of a forensic post mortem and the investgation.
