When and where you have to wear a face-covering under the latest coronavirus rules announced by the Government

As part of a raft of changes to the coronavirus rules announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson today, face coverings are to become mandatory in more public places.

These include customers in private hire vehicles and taxis who must wear one from Wednesday, September 23.

Customers in hospitality venues must also wear face coverings, except when seated at a table to eat or drink, while all staff in hospitality and retail will now be required to wear one from Thursday, September 24.

Staff working on public transport and taxi drivers will continue to be advised to wear face coverings but people who are already exempt from the existing face-covering obligations, such as because of an underlying health condition, will continue to be exempt from the new rules.

Guidance stating that face coverings and visors should be worn in close contact services is to become law from September 24.
