'We are lost for words': Family overwhelmed at amount raised in memory of mum who died seven weeks after giving birth in Sheffield

More than £28,600 has been raised following the death of 41-year-old Hannah Wilson who died of cancer seven weeks after the birth of her second child, Sadie.

Primary school teacher Hannah, who worked at Bramley Grange Primary School in Rotherham, was also a devoted mum to her son Jude, 22 months.

After being diagnosed with cancer at the end of February when she was 30 weeks pregnant, she gave birth to her daughter the following week as her health deteriorated.

During her final weeks, Hannah, from Tankersley, Barnsley, married her long-term partner, Andrew, and arranged a naming ceremony for her children.

Her final wish was for money to be donated in her memory to the charities and organisations which helped her and her family after her devastating cancer diagnosis.

The money is to be shared between the Jessop Wing maternity unit in Sheffield, Barnsley Hospice, Barnsley Neonatal Unit, The Ambulance Wish Foundation and Mummy’s Star charity.

Thanking all those who have donated and left online tributes, Hannah’s family said: “We are lost for words at the amount raised so far.

“You are all so kind and generous. Thank you so so much It really is heartwarming.

“The whole family has spent lots of time reading through your lovely comments too. Once Jude and Sadie are old enough, we hope they will look at this and have an insight into how amazing and how loved their mummy was.”

Among the tributes paid to Hannah on the family’s online fundraising page is one from Jane Skelton, whose children were taught by her.

She said: “Such a lovely, caring person. Life so cruel, taken far to soon. Life will live on in her two beautiful children.”

Andrea Bacon, whose son was also taught by Hannah, said: “Such a caring and lovely teacher who was loved by many.”

Helen Harrison said: “Hannah was so lovely and everybody loved her too.”

Hannah’s funeral is to be held tomorrow.
