"Pharmacists are trusted healthcare professionals and our pharmacies are a vital part of the community, providing patients greater choice and flexibility as to where they can have their life-saving vaccination.”

The pharmacies taking part in the vaccination programme will come up as options when a person books their Covid-19 vaccination through the national booking system or when calling 119.

They will be seen alongside Sheffield Arena as a choice of where to have the vaccination. A number of primary care centres across the region are also still calling people forward for vaccinations by phone or text message.

Kirsten Major, Chief Executive for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are delighted that the first three local community pharmacies are now on board as this will provide another option for people to get their vaccination.

"We urge anyone aged 40 or over to book their first dose of the vaccine as soon as they are able. It’s also important that you come back for your 2nd dose of the vaccine to ensure you get full protection. "

Anyone aged 40 or over living in the region can book to have their jab at the local pharmacies as of today via the national NHS Covid-19 vaccine booking system (Book a coronavirus vaccination - NHS (www.nhs.uk) or by calling free on 119.

People are being asked not to just turn up without an appointment as pharmacy staff will not be able to give the jab. Also please do not phone the pharmacies direct as they cannot make appointments for you.
