South Yorkshire and Sheffield lose 21 more patients to Covid-19

A further 21 patients across South Yorkshire have lost their lives after a battle with coronavirus, the latest NHS figures have revealed.

Three more people have died in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data, bringing the total Covid-19 related fatalities in the city to 538.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, Doncaster has surpassed 500 deaths after 10 more were reorded, bringing the total toll to 508.

In Rotherham there were four additional deaths, taking the total to 389 and in Barnsley there have now been 371 deaths, after four more were recorded.

Nationwide a further 317 peoplewho tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 45,783.

Patients were aged between 35 and 100 years old. All except eight (aged 60 to 97 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

The date of the death ranges from November 4 to December 17.

Their families have been informed.
