Sheffield’s coronavirus death toll has risen again, with 228 hospital patients now known to have died after contracting Covid-19.

The figure, released by NHS England today, is an increase of one since yesterday.

According to the Office for National Statistics 126 care home residents in Sheffield had died from the virus as of April 24.

The latest figures out today show that 22,765 hospital patients have died across England after testing positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began.

There have been 125 deaths in Rotherham, 116 in Doncaster and 99 in Barnsley.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to address the nation on Sunday to provide a ‘road map’ of how lockdown measures will gradually be relaxed.

The lockdown was put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus and until any changes are announced people can only leave home for shopping, essential travel to work, exercise and medical reasons.
