Sheffield passes grim coronavirus milestone as 23 more patients die in South Yorkshire

The latest NHS figures show that Sheffield has passed a grim milestone after a further 23 coronavirus patients died in South Yorkshire.

The city surpassed 400 coronavirus deaths after nine more people died in the city’s hospitals, bringing the death toll to 408.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, there were 11 more fatalities in Doncaster where the death toll now stands at 360.

In Rotherham there were also two more deaths, taking the total to 270 and in Barnsley there have now been 107 deaths after one more patient died.

Nationwide, a further 317 people who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 35,640.

Patients were aged between 33 and 98 years old. All except nine, aged 48 to 81 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

The dates of the deaths range from October 10 to November 11.

Their families have been informed.
