On Saturday, April 4, Mr Walker set off on his virtual journey towards the London Eye from the comfort of his own home. In total, Richard cycled 320.1 miles and created a JustGiving account raising £717 for the charity Crisis.

In order to achieve his goal and abide by the social distancing guidelines, he linked his bike up to a turbo trainer allowing him to complete the journey from his living room.

After having to endure much mental and physical pain, Richard completed the challenge within the 24 hour time frame with a little help and support from his family.

Richard said: “Virtually cycling that distance and staying in one place is particularly difficult. Thankfully, my kids helped me through by creating posters of destinations I was due to pass.

“For me, the distance itself wasn’t the most difficult part of the challenge. I’ve cycled long distances before. I’d say the most challenging element was keeping mentally strong, it was too easy to think about doing things like just getting off the bike and walking into the kitchen.

“As mentally and physically challenging as it was, it’s always helpful to remember that it will end and the goal is always achievable, just keep going. That’s what message I’d have for anyone thinking about doing something similar.”
