Claremont Private Hospital received the essential safety goggles and glasses for its staff from Panther Tools and Products, based in nearby Chesterfield.

The hospital was made available to the NHS following discussions between government and the independent healthcare sector about how to help in the battle against coronavirus.

Claremont, which is rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, has dedicated its 210 staff, 36 beds and state-of-the-art equipment to the NHS.

The protective kit was secured after Claremont’s purchasing manager reached out to Panther Tools and Products asking if any equipment was still available. The company, which supplies tools to the European automative industry and who often use protective equipment in their work, were happy to help, and provided a batch of glasses and goggles to the hospital within an hour of the request.

The glasses and goggles will provide Claremont’s hospital staff with protection from impact, dust and chemical splash. In addition, they provide a secure shield around the entire eye and protect against hazards coming from any direction, and so reduce the risk of healthcare staff being taken ill.

The hospital has started to distribute the newly-received kit to its staff as preparations continue ahead of the expected peak of Covid-19. Another batch of goggles will be delivered to Claremont this week, with a total of 120 glasses being donated to the hospital.

Claremont is preparing to receive its first NHS patients this week, and the hospital will deliver important operations and treatments including hip and knee surgeries.

The innovative arrangement for Claremont to receive these resources from a local company means that the hospital is not relying on much-needed NHS resources.

Andrew Thornton, hospital director , said: “We’re very grateful to Panther Tools and Products for this generous contribution.

“It’s a fantastic gesture to donate this important equipment to our teams, and yet another example of people coming together from all walks of life to support healthcare staff.

“The protective goggles and glasses will keep our teams safe and ensure we’re well equipped to continue delivering high standards of care.”

Mark Holmes, director of Panther Tools and Products, said: “These are exceptional times and we know everyone needs to do their bit to support healthcare staff and keep them safe in the fight against this virus.

“Claremont have a fantastic reputation locally and when they called we were pleased to be able to help them and deliver the protective equipment they needed to enable their teams to deliver essential patient care.”

Claremont Private Hospital has been providing first-class healthcare to the South Yorkshire community for over 65 years.
