Sheffield Half Marathon postponed until 2021 over coronavirus concerns

The Sheffield Half Marathon has been postponed until March 2021 organisers Run For All have announced.

The race which had been postponed earlier this year and was moved to the same day as the Sheffield 10K and Sheffield Fun Run this September.

However due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, the Sheffield Half Marathon has now been postponed to 28th March 2021 and the Sheffield 10K and Sheffield Fun Run to 26th September 2021.

In a n email to runners, a spokesman for Run For All said: “At the time of the postponement, we had great hope that we would be able to host these events this year.

"Like many of you, we at Run For All, along with Sheffield City Council have been monitoring the situation on a daily basis and seeking guidance from the UK Government as to the next steps with regards the potential for events to take place later this year.

“Unfortunately, we are writing to advise you that due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, the Sheffield Half Marathon has been postponed to 28th March 2021 and the Sheffield 10K and Sheffield Fun Run to 26th September 2021.

“Whilst we appreciate this news won’t come as a complete surprise, like you, we are disappointed that our return to Sheffield will have to wait another year, but the safety of you the entrants has to come first.”

All entries will be transferred to the new date in 2021

Runners who have already received their race number in the post have been advised to keep the number safe as it will be their race number for the 2021 postponed event day. No further race numbers will now be posted out until March 2021.

The statement adds: “We really hope we will see you all on the start line next year, but in the meantime, we would ask you to stay safe, stay well and keep active.

“Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to offer refunds. This is as per our standard terms and conditions.”
