Sheffield cycling group needs a cash injection to find a new home for its bikes

“We want Hillsborough Park to be the most accessible park in Sheffield,” said Rosemary Hill from Sheffield Cycling 4 All, “somewhere where anyone can go and enjoy the outdoors.”

The redevelopment of the park’s old Coach House into a community dementia café means that the previous cycle storage area near the Coach House will have to go, so Cycling 4 All need a new home for their bikes and trikes.

The relocation means they can also invite other groups to take part, says Cycling 4 All’s Tom Collister.

“Without this new storage, Sheffield Cycling 4 all would no longer be able to operate in Hillsborough Park,” he said. “This would be a huge loss for Sheffield’s disabled community, and South Yorkshire as a whole, as this is the only disabled cycling project of its kind in the county.”

The project, run by Disability Sheffield’s Centre for Independent Living charity, is supported by Dame Sarah Storey, Active Travel Commissioner for the Sheffield City Region, who said:

“The work of Sheffield Cycling 4 All is a beacon of opportunity for the people who attend, providing access to a range of bikes that suit all types of impairment and mobility need. The project ensures that regardless of disability, people can access the enjoyment and opportunity cycling provides in a safe and welcoming environment, and I have had the pleasure of attending and witnessing the impact first-hand.”

Hillsborough councillor Bob Johnson is also a keen supporter of the project.

He said: “We are proud and lucky to have them based in Hillsborough Park, but for them to continue and expand it’s essential that they can raise the required funding. With our All Wheeled bike park set to open in spring, I want to see Sheffield Cycling 4 All members enjoying the many benefits this new development will bring and wish them every success in reaching their target.”
