Sam Tierney, aged 17, of Hathersage is raising funds for the hospital charity in memory of his friend, Aidan Bancroft, who died aged 13 in 2016 following an accident at home.

Aidan and Sam had been friends since birth, attended primary and secondary school together and played in the same football team.

In 2017 Sam’s dad, Anthony, raised over £7,000 for the charity by running 2017km over the year.

Sam is now aiming to follow in his father’s footsteps and complete the challenge for himself. He wants to raise £2,020.

To complete the challenge, Sam will need to run an average of just over 5km per day, or almost a marathon every week!

He has made a strong start and is already slightly ahead of schedule.

Sam is a keen runner and trains with the Hallamshire Harriers in Sheffield, having represented Derbyshire in national running events.

He will complete his runs from his home village of Hathersage, where, due to the Peak District hills, there are very few easy routes!
