A Sheffield-born MP was among the guests at a Downing Street reception attended by Health Minister Nadine Dorries, who has confirmed she has tested positive for coronavirus.

Dehenna Davison, the new Conservative MP for Bishop Auckland joined Ms Dorries and Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the event to mark International Women’s Day at 10 Downing Street last Thursday.

It is not known if Ms Davison, 26, who was born in Sheffield in 1993 and attended Sheffield High School, met the Health Minister at the event.

Ms Dorries said she had taken all the advised precautions after finding out and has been self-isolating at home.

The Department of Health said she first showed symptoms on Thursday - the same day she attended the event in Downing Street.

The Prime Minister welcomed leading female figures alonside inspirational women from business, science, and sport, among other sectors, to the special reception.

Among others in attendance were Baroness Liz Sugg, Grazia editor Hattie Brett, and Olympic medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.

The event was also attended by fifty Year 9 pupils from across the country.

Downing Street has refused to say whether the PM has undergone a test for coronavirus and it is not known if any of the other guests at the event have been tested for coronavirus or have shown any symptoms of COVID-19.

A sixth person died from the virus on Tuesday in the UK, which has a total of 382 cases.

The latest person to die was a man in his early 80s who had underlying health conditions.

The Bank of England has announced an emergency cut in interest rates in response to the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

Rates have been cut from 0.75% to 0.25%, taking the cost of borrowing back down to the lowest level in history.

Meanwhile, Manchester City's Premier League match against Arsenal on Wednesday has been postponed as "a precautionary measure" because of the outbreak.

Globally, there have been more than 100,000 cases of the virus.
