Thornberry Animal Sanctuary – which rescues and rehomes vulnerable animals in South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire – said its income will be "significantly" affected after they made the “difficult” decision to close their cafe and shop due to the ongoing outbreak of Covid-19.

A new opening date has not been given.

A statement said: “It is the right thing to do in the interest of our staff, you our supporters and friends, and the animals we care for.”

The charity said it "will always care for animals who are vulnerable and need us", but is now asking people for donations to help them financially.

People can donate by setting up a monthly direct debit, or by playing the Thornberry lottery which gives them a chance of winning £25,000.

More information can be found on the Thornberry Animal Sanctuary website.
