Number of Sheffield schools hit by Covid creeps into twenties as another site confirms positive case

A letter to parents of pupils at Bradfield School, seen by the Star, reads: “We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.”

The secondary school, in Worrall, has not confirmed if it is a pupil or staff member who has tested positive.

The letter goes on: “We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confurmed case will have received an individual letter and will be staying at home for 14 days.”

Addressing the nation last night, Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned of ‘tougher measures’ if people flout the latest coronavirus restrictions as cases continue to rise across the country.

Although schools will remain open, restaurants, pubs other hospitality venues will have to close by 10pm, and the number of people allowed at weddings has now been halved.

Sheffield schools affected by coronavirus include: Abbeyfield Primary Academy, King Edward II School, Birkdale School, Chaucer School, Hillsborough Primary School, Meersbrook Bank Primary, Pipworth Community Primary, King Ecgbert School, Sheffield Springs Academy, Watercliffe Meadow Community Primary School, Parkwood Academy, Lowfield School, The Birley Academy, The Birley Spa Primary Academy, Outwood Academy Sheffield, Tapton School, Aston Academy, Heritage Park School, Bents Green School, Newfield School, Bradfield School.
