Emily McDonald from Handsworth, Sheffield, has created a video in her best efforts to try and raise peoples spirits during the lockdown. The timing to release the video is perfect with mental health awareness week currently taking place.

The message from the nine-year-old girl is clear – nobody is alone in facing the struggles that come with the coronavirus lockdown and there are things we can all do to try and ease the effects on us, like going for a walk.

Importantly, Emily highlights the point that staff at the NHS are doing their bit to try and help those worst effected by Covid-19, and that now is the time for everyone else to play their part by staying home.

Emily’s mother, Annabelle McDonald said: “I’m not entirely sure where she got the inspiration to do the video from, I just woke up on the morning we filmed the video with Emily ready and waiting with all these cards.

“I think she is missing her friends and going to school with all the aspects of freedom that we’re all used to. I was so proud of her for doing this and completely stunned that a nine-year-old could come up with an idea like this all on her own.

Emily said: “I thought it would be really good to share a message that people should try not get really mad about being in lockdown”.
