An HSBC UK spokeswoman said: “As a precautionary measure we have a staff member who has self-isolated. We are deep-cleaning the floor where our colleague worked and asking other people who may have recently come into immediate contact with this person to stay at home for self-care and quarantine.

“Based on medical and official advice the building remains open and operates as normal. Our first priority and concern is the health of our employees and customers – and we are encouraging our colleagues to monitor their health carefully and stay at home or call a doctor if they feel unwell.”

An HSBC employee who asked to remain anonymous said that around 10 people were currently quarantined and cleaning teams in hazmat suits had been seen today, Tuesday, March 10, wiping down potentially infected areas.

“Parts of the office have been quarantined but most of the workforce on the same floor are still expected to come in,” he added.
