Rumours circulating online suggested the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Sheffield is a patient at the The Health Care Surgery on Palgrave Road.

However, a post from the surgery’s Facebook page said: “Despite messages in the local media and discussions on various websites, the one patient diagnosed in Sheffield with the illness is not at The Health Care Surgery as far as we know. We have not been contacted by Public Health England to inform us, which would have happened by now.”

The post continued: “The patient went through the correct triage as per guidance but was still directed to the surgery. This incident happened yesterday evening (11 March) around 8.30pm.

“We have had a staff on site since 5am this morning to deep clean the affected areas. According to national guidance, there is now NO risk to patients attending today.

“We expect more and more suspected cases in Sheffield over the next few weeks so this may happen again on a regular basis, we will use this platform and our telephone messages to keep patients informed.”

The Surgery was open as normal on Thursday.
