'Don't suffer addiction alone' says South Yorkshire rehabilitation centre boss

Linwood House in Barnsley treats people for addiction to drugs and alcohol, as well as for eating disorders, gaming, gambling and prescription drugs.

The specialist therapy team are urging people to seek the help they need for their addiction now to prevent another 'bottleneck treatment crisis' once regulations are lifted, as happened after lockdown.

They admit clients from Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley.

Linwood House has recently become part of the UK Addiction Treatment Group’s portfolio of facilities.

The group expanded with the purchase of Linwood House to meet the rise in demand for addiction treatment in the North.

As the country started to ease out of lockdown, Linwood House staff say they were inundated with hundreds of calls for help each week, with the facility operating at almost maximum capacity throughout July and August.

This, they say, is down to the Government’s ‘chosen silence’ over which support services were still accessible during the crisis.

They are now warning people living in South Yorkshire to not fall under the same illusion and to get the help they need.

“Linwood House in Barnsley is still very much open and admitting clients for addiction treatment on a daily basis,” says Eytan Alexander, managing director for the facility.

“Those suffering with addiction in our community were failed during the national lockdown; they were not made aware that services like ours were still able to provide safe support.

“We’re worried that history is about to repeat itself, so we’re here to say we are open, we are following all Public Health England guidelines and we are a safe place to get the help you need.

“Please do not suffer with your addiction at home on your own, regardless of the current or any future lockdown rules.”

All eight UK Addiction Treatment Group residential rehabs nationally have continued to admit those suffering with addiction during the Coronavirus crisis.
