Covid-19: Dozens more South Yorkshire deaths recorded over weekend

Nearly 50 more coronavirus deaths were recorded in South Yorkshire over the weekend, according to the latest figures.

Twelve more people have died in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data which is published daily, bringing the total Covid-19 related fatalities in the city to 550.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, Doncaster recorded a further 13 deaths, bringing the death toll to 521.

In Rotherham there were 12 additional deaths, taking the total to 401 and in Barnsley there have now been 380 deaths, after nine more were recorded.

Nationally a further 190 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 46,578.

Patients were aged between 41 and 103 years old. All except five (aged 72 to 91 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Dates of deaths range from November 24 to December 20. Their families have been informed.
