Covid-19: 13 more deaths recorded in South Yorkshire on Boxing Day

A further 13 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in South Yorkshire on Boxing Day, the latest NHS figures have shown.

Eight more people who tested positive for the virus have died in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data, bringing the total Covid-19 related fatalities in the city to 566.

No further deaths were recorded in Doncaster, where the death toll stands at 545.

In Rotherham there were three additional deaths, taking the total to 415 and in Barnsley there have now been 406 deaths, after two more were recorded in the town.

A further 570 deaths in the UK were reported on Christmas Day, taking the total number of people in the UK who have now died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test to 70,195.

Harsher coronavirus rules now apply to millions more people after most of east and south-east England went into Tier 4 overnight.
